Based on the National Study of Youth and Religion--the same invaluable data as its predecessor, Soul Searching: The Religious and Spiritual Lives of American Teenagers--Kenda Creasy Dean's compelling new book, Almost Christian, investigates why American teenagers are at once so positive about Christianity and at the same time so apathetic about genuine religious practice.

In Soul Searching, Christian Smith and Melinda Lundquist Denton found that American teenagers have embraced a "Moralistic Therapeutic Deism"--a hodgepodge of banal, self-serving, feel-good beliefs that bears little resemblance to traditional Christianity. But far from faulting teens, Dean places the blame for this theological watering down squarely on the churches themselves. Instead of proclaiming a God who calls believers to lives of love, service and sacrifice, churches offer instead a bargain religion, easy to use, easy to forget, offering little and demanding less. But what is to be done? In order to produce ardent young Christians, Dean argues, churches must rediscover their sense of mission and model an understanding of being Christian as not something you do for yourself, but something that calls you to share God's love, in word and deed, with others. Dean found that the most committed young Christians shared four important traits: they could tell a personal and powerful story about God; they belonged to a significant faith community; they exhibited a sense of vocation; and they possessed a profound sense of hope. Based on these findings, Dean proposes an approach to Christian education that places the idea of mission at its core and offers a wealth of concrete suggestions for inspiring teens to live more authentically engaged Christian lives.

Persuasively and accessibly written, Almost Christian is a wake up call no one concerned about the future of Christianity in America can afford to ignore.

Let's admit it, sexuality can be a very overwhelming and confusing topic. Within our culture, questions about sexuality are starting at earlier ages and many don't know where to turn for answers. Direct and to the point, Answering the Tough Questions About Sexuality will help you find Biblically based and insightful answers to most asked questions about sexuality.

"Jake Kircher has written a wonderful booklet on sexuality giving the honest, straight scoop on healthy sexuality. He knows the key questions kids and parents are asking and he answers them with short, yet profound answers. This is a booklet I will pass along to everyone I can. Parents get this booklet and give it to your kids. They will read it. Youth Workers buy this booklet for your entire youth group and go over each question and answer. It’s great stuff."

Jim Burns, PhD President,
HomeWord
Author of Teaching Your Children Healthy Sexuality and The Purity Code

“Answering the Tough Questions About Sexuality doesn't talk down to teens or candy-coat the real issues teens face daily. Instead, it presents solid, biblical advice in a direct and realistic style. Jake Kircher uniquely blends credible research, theology and adolescent sexuality in a format that promotes parent-teen discussions on vital issues.”

Timothy Smith
Author of The Danger of Raising Nice Kids and founder of www.ParentsCoach.org

“Our over-sexualized world is giving kids lots of guidance and direction on how to live out the wonderful gift of their sexuality. Sadly, most of that direction is anything but helpful, good, or Godly. Jake Kircher's little book is a great
springboard into thoughtful discussion of sex and sexuality, offering parents and teens answers and advice that can launch them into a deeper understanding of God's best for this area of their lives."

Walt Mueller
President, Center for Parent/Youth Understanding

“At a time when our young people struggle deeply to understand their sexuality and parents and youth leaders search for ways to clearly and effectively communicate the basic truths about this critical topic, along comes Answering the Tough Questions About Sexuality. Jake Kircher packs a lot of solid information and, more importantly, Godly wisdom into this concise and straight forward little booklet that will serve as an excellent resource for parents, youth workers, and the young people they love care about.”

Students will understand the many aspects of Jesus' character: * Teacher: How and why is Jesus' teaching so different? * Healer: Why does Jesus restore people? * Shepherd: How is Jesus leading and caring for his people? * Servant: Why is servanthood so important to Jesus? * Savior: What does it mean that Jesus is a savior? * Risen Lord: Why is it so important that Jesus really is the son of God? Beginning in Jesus lets students love more deeply, live more honestly, and develop their character in Christ as they help each other answer His call everyday.

From the Old Testament through the New Testament, as the Story unfolds, children will pick up the clues and piece together the puzzle. A Bible like no other, The Jesus Storybook Bible invites children to join in the greatest of all adventures, to discover for themselves that Jesus is at the center of God's great story of salvation---and at the center of their Story too.

Building on the foundation she established in her classic work, The Critical Years, Sharon Parks urges thoughtful adults to assume responsibility for providing strategic mentorship during this important decade in life. She reveals also, however, the ways young adults are influenced not only by individual mentors but also by mentoring environments.

Equips parents to guide their young children through all major doctrines in an understandable, chapter-a-day format.

Sure, it's easy to teach your children the essentials of Christian theology when you're a theology professor. But what about the rest of us?

With Big Truths for Young Hearts, Bruce Ware, (you guessed it!) a theology professor, encourages and enables parents of children 6-14 years of age to teach through the whole of systematic theology at a level their children can understand. Parents can teach their children the great truths of the faith and shape their worldviews early, based on these truths.

The book covers ten topics of systematic theology, devoting several brief chapters to each subject, making it possible for parents to read one chapter per day with their children. With this non-intimidating format, parents will be emboldened to be their children's primary faith trainers-and perhaps learn a few things themselves along the way.

Purpose Driven Romance

The last thing singles want is more rules. But if you’re looking for an intentional, God-pleasing game plan for finding a future spouse, Joshua Harris delivers an appealing one. A compelling new foreword, an all-new “8 Great Courtship Conversations” section, and updated material throughout makes this five-year revision of the original Boy Meets Girl a must-have! Harris illustrates how biblical courtship—a healthy, joyous alternative to recreational dating—worked for him and his wife. Boy Meets Girl presents an inspiring, practical example for readers wanting to pursue the possibility of marriage with someone they may be serious about.

Are you ready for “romance with purpose”?

If you’re fed up with self-centered relationships that end in disillusionment, it’s time to rethink romance. Finding the loving, committed relationship you want shouldn’t mean throwing away your hopes, your integrity, or your heart.

In Boy Meets Girl, Joshua Harris —the guy who kissed dating goodbye—makes the case for courtship. As old-fashioned as it might sound, courtship is what modern day relationships desperately need. Think of it as romance chaperoned by wisdom, cared for by community, and directed by God’s Word.

Filled with inspiring stories from men and women who have rediscovered courtship, Boy Meets Girl is honest, romantic, and refreshingly biblical. Keep God at the center of your relationship as you discover how to:

   • Set a clear course for your romance
   • Get closer without compromise
   • Find support in a caring community
   • Deal with past sexual sin
   • Make the right decisions about your future
New! Courtship Conversations

Eight ideas for great dates that will help grow and guide your relationship.

Story Behind the Book

“I wrote I Kissed Dating Goodbye to challenge singles to drop the worldly approach to serial dating and reconsider the way they pursued romance in light of God’s Word. Since then, I’ve received letters asking questions like, So, what comes between friendship and marriage? and, How can you know when you are ready for marriage? Boy Meets Girl answers those questions. Now as a happily married man I can look back on my courtship with Shannon and see from personal experience that God is faithful. If you trust Him enough to wait on romance in dating, He will lovingly guide you as you pursue it in courtship…right to that wonderful moment when you kneel together at the altar.” — Joshua Harris

While most youth pastors are being regularly evaluated (or even scrutinized) for what they're doing right now in the youth group, the reality is that the most important thing they are doing won't actually be evident until much later. That's because the biggest challenge for any youth ministry is helping teens embrace a whole-hearted devotion to God that lasts far beyond their years in the youth room. Unfortunately, much of youth ministry seems to be designed on the model of setting teenagers up for a 'date' with God---a delightful evening that involves music, laughter, food, and light conversation. But what scripture calls us to is not a 'one-night stand' with God, but a lifelong love of God that endures. Youth ministry educator and veteran, Duffy Robbins, offers youth workers a blueprint for building that kind of faith in teenagers. In this concise book, ideal for busy youth workers, they'll be equipped to build a youth ministry that instills that lasting faith in its students.

Who Was Jesus? A good man? A lunatic? God? There's little question that he actually lived. But miracles? Rising from the dead? Some of the stories you hear about him sound like just that--stories. A reasonable person would never believe them, let alone the claim that he's the only way to God! But a reasonable person would also make sure that he or she understood the facts before jumping to conclusions. That's why Lee Strobel--an award-winning legal journalist with a knack for asking tough questions--decided to investigate Jesus for himself. An atheist, Strobel felt certain his findings would bring Christianity's claims about Jesus tumbling down like a house of cards. He was in for the surprise of his life. Join him as he retraces his journey from skepticism to faith. You'll consult expert testimony as you sift through the truths that history, science, psychiatry, literature, and religion reveal. Like Strobel, you'll be amazed at the evidence--how much there is, how strong it is, and what it says. The facts are in. What will your verdict be in The Case for Christ?

I have been asked to prepare this little aid for your use in the Home--that first and greatest of schools. The school was founded by the Maker of men, and He called mothers to be its earliest and most important teachers. He prepared a text-book for it which we call His Word, illustrating it richly and fully from life and Nature, and filling it with His Spirit. Wherever it is known, as the children become the members of the Church, the citizens of the State, the people of the World, the Book goes with them, forming the Church, the State, the World. It is not only equal to the need, but contains infinite riches that wait to be unveiled.
