102 "Hot Seat" Questions for Your Teens or Pre-Teen Group
by: Jeanne Gibson
Publisher: Published: 2011-03-16 ASIN: B004SHJEJE

|
| | More details | Kids love to express their own ideas on how to solve a problem, especially when the problem is one that they or their friends have faced at one time or another or may face in the future.
This book has 101 such problems, some common to all kids and others dealing with more sticky situations, that give them the opportunity to interact with each other to find out the best solution to each problem.
Select one or two of the entries from this book at the end of your weekly Sunday school class or youth group meeting, and ask the group for their ideas about solving the problem described. Youâll be amazed at the variety of ideas they come up with. Some of their ideas may conflict with the morality of what you have been trying to teach them, and the open discussion will give you a chance to present more acceptable ways of dealing with a particular problem.
To make it even more interesting, set up a âhot seatâ in the middle of the room and have one student take the seat. Read the question and allow the student to volunteer his or her solution to the problem before opening it to discussion by the whole group. (Perhaps some of your students may want to role-play some of the situations for the group.)

A New Testament View of Women
by: Shirley Stephens
Publisher: Broadman Press Published: 2000-05-02 ASIN: B001RTSDNY
Read reviews >> |
|
| | More details | Book Description
A New Testament View of Women contains a detailed exegesis of all of the New Testament passages that deal specifically with the role of women. In many cases the author translated the Greek for a clearer understanding. The content has been carefully researched from commentaries, as well as historical sources. Shirley Stephens has related the Scriptures to the social structure of the New Testament era, especially the Apostle Paul's âproblemâ passages, in which he seems to place drastic limitations on the freedom of women. Her goal was to present a solid biblical view, based on valid exegetical methods that are accepted and practiced by evangelicals. While scholarly in content, the book is written in a popular, non-academic style.
Chapters include:
Women in the Kingdom Women in Jesusâ Earthly Ministry A Point of Reference Women in the New Testament Home Women in the New Testament Church Womenâs Involvement and Cultural Factors Jesusâ Model and the Church Today
Review:
Baptist Standard, January 25,1981 "Her persistent efforts in interpreting each scripture within its biblical context adds a decisive dimension to the accuracy." About the Author
Shirley Stephens is a long-time editor and the author of five other books and countless articles. Other books to her credit: My Daughter Susan Smith, the story of a troubled young mother who sent her children to their deaths in a South Carolina lake; Breaking Crime's Vicious Cycle, the gripping, true-life story of hardened criminal Don Dennis and his conversion and transformation into a life of service to inmates; Under the SS Shadow, the true story of a former Hitler Youth and the son of an SS major; Great Truths from Jesusâ Conversations With Women presents nine conversations from the life of Jesus; From the Cell to the Cross, an update of Breaking Crimeâs Vicious Cycle.

Already Gone
by: Todd Hillard
Publisher: Master Books Published: 2009-05-01 ASIN: B0029O0CR6

|
| | More details | If you look around in your church today, two-thirds of the young people who are sitting among us have already left in their hearts; soon they will be gone for good.
This is the alarming conclusion from a study Answers in Genesis commissioned from America's Research Group, led by respected researcher Britt Beemer. The results may unnerve you - they may shake long-held assumptions to the core - but these results need to be taken seriously by the church. Already Gone reveals:
⢠Why America's churches have lost an entire generation of believers ⢠The views of 1,000 twenty-somethings, solidly raised in the church but no longer attending - and their reasons why ⢠Relevant statistical data effectively teamed with powerful apologetics
The study found that we are losing our kids in elementary, middle school, and high school rather than college, and the "Sunday school syndrome" is contributing to the epidemic, rather than helping alleviate it. This is an alarming wake-up call for the church, showing how our programs and our approaches to Christian education are failing...and our children are paying the price. Though the statistics reveal a huge disconnect taking place between our children and their church experience, Already Gone shows how to fight back for our families, our churches, and our world. We can make a difference today that will affect the statistics of tomorrow in a positive and Christ-focused way!

| | More details | | Building Blocks for Sunday School Growth are at your fingertips. These six building blocks: Vision, Balance, Leadership, Relevant Teaching, Receptivity and Inclusion, and Outreach and Inreach, will help you develop an intentional vision and plan for spiritual and numerical growth. The authors contend that failure to pay attention to the infrastructure in these six areas can lead to a decline in the quality of your Sunday school. However, by focusing on these six building blocks, you will re-energize your leaders and allow your Sunday school to grow and develop. As you gain a renewed perspective on the potential of Sunday school, you will notice an increase in energy, both spiritual and numerical. The critics are wrong--Sunday school is not dead! Strengthening these six areas of your organization can lead to a renewed Bible Teaching Ministry. Your Sunday school can grow, and as the Sunday school grows, so, too, will the church. |

Children Matter: Celebrating Their Place in the Church, Family, and Community
by: Scottie May
Publisher: William B. Eerdmans Publishing Company Published: 2005-09 ASIN: 0802822282
Read reviews >> |
|
| | More details | | Children today are no longer expected to be seen and not heard, yet in many churches children are involved only in programs designated for them. Children Matter offers a full discussion of childrens spirituality and shows how the faith community can effectively nurture its youngest members. Speaking from their experience with childrens ministry in a range of Protestant traditions, the authors draw on the Bible, history, and psychology to lay good foundations for such ministry before discussing the specific content and contexts of faith formation. Finally, they provide wise and practical advice on putting together interesting programs without losing sight of their main purpose. Rather than focusing on innovative ways to use technology, Children Matter emphasizes relationships between people and encourages the church to welcome all children as valued participants in the people of God. It will challenge and refresh anyone invested in ministry with children. |

| | More details | Question and answer is widely regarded as an effective wayâif not the most effective wayâto lead groups.
But, ever been in a bad discussion? Ever been in a really bad discussion? A discussion that was awkward and uncomfortable or predictable and boring or so tense you wanted to leave the room? There is a reason many teachers will retreat to the safety of lecture. Question and answer is unpredictable. We feel out of control.
Why do some questions spark lively and life-changing conversations, while others fall flat? That is what we seek to uncover in this book.
How do we ask questions that lead not only to an interesting discussion, but one that changes lives? How do we create conversations that create disciples? That is the purpose of this book. |
