This book is the result of many years of sharing with laypersons my love of the Bible. Like most people, I learned Bible stories at home and in the church; but never caught sight of the whole thing. No one ever put together for me the amazing kaleidoscope of prophets, historians, storytellers, and visionaries who tell of their own encounters with life and God in the Bible.

*****

Dr. Phillippe reminds his readers that this is first and foremost a romp... " True to the definition of romp, "to play boisterously," he moves the reader quickly through the sixty-six books of the Old and New testament and fifteen of the Apocrypha and does it with a style he believes the writers would approve, even if the normally stodgy interpreters of the Bible might not.

(The books I publish are always proof read and corrected before publishing on Kindle! David Snode)

IT is time for those of us who are this side of thirty-five to unite and take
back our Jesus. We have been too carelessly generous. We have allowed Him to
be appropriated here, there, and everywhere until we have forgotten how indisputable
is our own first claim to Him. We have surrendered His statues to cathedrals and
hospitals and — Heaven forgive us — even to monasteries. We have looked on unprotestingly while painters have made Him soft-faced, and effeminate; and hymn-writers have written of His sufferings as though that were all in His life worth writing about. We have only ourselves to blame, if out of all the repellent medley of hospitals and monasteries and weak pictures and spiritless hymns, the public has formed its own conception of a tired, unhappy, martyred Jesus who lived without a real laugh and looked forward to dying in a sort of fanatical eagerness. If this is the picture which red-blooded men have of Him, then it is our fault who are still this side of thirty-five. For He is our
Jesus in a special sense. He died before He was thirty-five. He had our bounding pulses,
our hot desires. He felt His spirits leap in the bracing air of the new morning. He knew
the stirring cheer of good fellowship. We who dream our dreams of success know how
He felt that morning when He rode into Jerusalem over the strewed palms; and
because our road stretches out a long way in front, through years of sunshine, as His
might have stretched, the agony of that cry from the cross rings more sharply in our ears
than in any others. He is our Jesus, and we have surrendered Him to priests and to
women, to hospitals and monasteries, without so much as a struggle.

As soon as we left Malachi and crossed the three blank pages that lie between
the Testaments all the reality seemed to disappear. For one thing Jerusalem never
seemed real. Whether there was any business in it, any dwellings, any stores and offices,
we could never quite make out: it was to us a sort of stage city consisting of a temple and
a wall. And compared to David and Samson — hot, pulsing realities — Jesus seemed
hardly more than the shadow of a man. He was the "lamb," the "meek and lowly," the
"man of sorrows," the long-suffering one who had turned the other cheek. He was every-
thing in our Sunday school teaching which I judge He Himself would have preferred not
to be. To think of Him as a real man, doing a tremendous task, was made to seem some-
how irreverent: to have suggested that He was strong physically, that the muscles stand-
ing out in His arms and legs helped to breed respect in the crowd that followed Him, would
have been nothing short of sacrilege. We admired Him, as we might admire a man in a
hospital who suffered without flinching. But we did not feel close to Him — not as we felt
close to Samson and David, nor to Moses with his wand and brass snake.

Against all this negative conception of the Young Man of Galilee, we, to whom He belongs in a special sense, ought vigorously to protest. That our objection may be more
compelling, we should have our own picture of Him so clear-cut and distinctive that the
whole world must acknowledge it. It is to present this truer portrait — of a young man
glowing with physical strength and the joy of living, athrill with the protest of youth against oppression and intolerance, yet radiating a spiritual power that has transformed the world — that this little book is written.

The Book of Baruch

The Song of the Three Children
The History of Susanna

The Second Book of the Maccabees

The word Apocrypha comes from a Greek word meaning "those having been hidden away".

Apocrypha generally means those sacred books of the Jewish people which were not included in the Hebrew canonized Bible.

These books are valuable as forming a link connecting the Old and New Testaments, and are regarded as useful reading, although not all the books are of equal value.

The apocryphal books in this Kindle book are considered of "special value" and are mostly correct, but with many interpolations by man.

The Roman Church regards as part of the canon the books of Tobit, Judith, Wisd., Ecclus., Baruch, 1 and 2 Macc., and the additions to Daniel and Esther. Besides these books, there are other Jewish apocryphal writings. The chief are the Psalms of Solomon, the Book of Enoch, the apocalypse of Baruch, the Testaments of the Twelve Patriarchs, the Assumption of Moses, the Book of Jubilees, and the Sibylline Oracles

The prophecies in the Book of Daniel are so detailed and accurate that scholars who don't believe in the Bible as the inspired Word of God have trouble accepting Daniel as the author of his book.

The Book of Daniel has been torn apart limb for limb by the discipline that calls itself “Higher
Criticism.” “Higher Criticism” objects particularly to the date of writing, trying to place it in the Maccabean period (±167 BC).

There is no reason for us to consider Daniel to be written during any other period than the
Babylonian Captivity, which lasted from ±597-538.

To find out the most compelling and best defense of the Book of Daniel against those who would attack it, download this book for your Kindle. Sir Robert Anderson has truly set the standard, and the reader will not be disappointed.

About the Author

Robert Anderson, though of Scottish descent, was born in Dublin on 29 May 1841. His father, Matthew Anderson, was Crown Solicitor in the Irish capital, a distinguished elder in the Irish Presbyterian Church, and was descended from one of the "No Surrender" group of Derry defenders. In the biographical sketch found in Kregel Publications recent reprints of his works it states that he described himself as an anglicized Irishman of Scottish extraction.

He had been brought up in a devout Christian home, and had led what is known as a religious life, with occasional transient fits of penitence and anxiety, but, in his late teens he had doubts about his own conversion. The Irish Evangelical Revival (1859-60) touched Robert's sister, who persuaded her brother to attend one of the services, held in Dublin by Rev Joseph Denham Smith, but the popular hymns disturbed him and he got very little out of the message. The light came the following Sunday evening when he attended a service in his own church and heard the Rev. John Hall (afterwards of New York), who "boldly proclaimed forgiveness of sins, and eternal life as God's gift in grace, unreserved and unconditional, to be received by us as we sat in the pews. His sermon thrilled me," Sir Robert said when describing the event, "and yet I deemed his doctrine to be unscriptural. So I waylaid him as he left the vestry, and on our homeward walk I tackled him about his heresies ... At last he let go my arm, and, facing me as we stood upon the pavement, he repeated with great solemnity his gospel message and appeal. 'I tell you,' he said, 'as a minister of Christ, and in His name, that there is life for you here and now if you will accept Him. Will you accept Christ, or will you reject Him?' After a pause — how prolonged I know not — I exclaimed, 'In God's name I will accept Christ.' Not another word passed between us; but after another pause he wrung my hand and left me. And I turned homewards with the peace of God filling my heart."

He was especially close to some of the greatest biblical teachers of his day, including James M. Gray, Cyrus Ingersoll Scofield, A. C. Dixon, and E. W. Bullinger. He also preached with John Nelson Darby (1800-1882) in the West of Ireland. Anderson was a member of the Plymouth Brethren, first with Darby then with the Open Brethren party before returing to his Presbyterian roots. R.A. was a copius author of numerous religious works, most of which are still in print to this day and enjoying an increasing circulation.

Daniel was a man both tested and exalted. Regardless of external circumstances, his commitment to the Lord God Almighty never fluctuated. He relied upon God for both life-saving miracles and the smallest of provisions. In this study through the intriguing book of Daniel, we will see this one man’s unwavering faith in his God, beginning from the time that he arrived in Babylon as a young captive and continuing throughout his years of service under the authority of several heathen kings and kingdoms. There is perhaps no better example of godly faith, dependency, trust, and worship than in the character of the prophet Daniel.

If you long to experience God's love and provision, it may be worth paying attention to your dreams. Sometimes, these middle-of-the-night dramas offer uncommon guidance and wisdom, direction for our lives we might otherwise miss. Our dreams can even bring healing, a glimpse of the future, or an invitation to deeper relationship with the One who made us dreamers in the first place.

Ann Spangler reminds us that the Bible is full of miraculous accounts of God's speaking to people through dreams: Abraham, Jacob, Daniel, Solomon, and Joseph are just a few of those in both the Old and New Testaments whose lives were forever changed by supernatural dreams. Now-as then-God is at work to calm our anxieties, heal our grief, or warn us of impending danger.

'Dreams and Miracles' offers fascinating, true stories of ordinary men and women whose lives have been changed by a dream. More than that, it provides biblically based wisdom for discerning your dreams so that you can recognize and respond to God's voice.

"Ann Spangler has written an excellent book on a mysterious subject. 'Dreams and Miracles' will help Christians navigate through the ethereal world of dreams and visions to the solid rock of God's unalterable Word." -- Pastor James Ryle, Boulder Valley Vineyard, Author of 'Hippo in the Garden' and 'A Dream Come True'

Eve's Diary by Mark Twain is the poignant, funny, and what-if tongue-in-cheek classic satire of the first couple in the Garden of Eden: how they met; their adventures in the Garden; their love; and their perplexing Mars versus Venus moments. The story has animals (with drawings) and details Eve's experiments with fire and other concepts that are new to just-created humans. A short section gives Adam's take on his understanding of this lovely creature who both frustrates him and makes him head for the Fall. The book's text and images are from our own collection of rare books. The whimsical line drawings by Lester Ralph are enhanced with high black-and-white contrast for sharp and optimal viewing on your Kindle.

For many people, the Bible is an obsession, to be worshipped, quoted, and argued about endlessly. But probably not one person in a thousand has actually read all the books in it or knows anything about how they came into existence. Furthermore, many extra-biblical books are very hard to find, and the English translations were often made by scholars several centuries ago, using impenetrably archaic language. Now all the hard work has been done for you in this easy to read summary. Now you can be a biblical expert - the easy way!

From Harlot to Hero, is a modern adaptation of an Old Testament biblical character meant to entertain and offer insight into one young woman's life and personal encounter with God. This is a fictional work but the text, Joshua 2:1:24, that it was drawn from is not fiction. The Old Testament characters are real people and their existence, etched in history, are models left for us to glean knowledge. Their lives, struggles, pain, failures and victories, are written for us in the somewhat story book format, I believe, for our benefit, so that we will be able to understand and receive the lessons that their lives portray.

Miss Rahab is an excellent example, of those in the beginning stages of their faith walk. She was a woman cocooned between defensive walls, her own and those erected to protect the city. She was the young woman who the two spies went to for sanctuary during their assignment in spying out the land (v. 1 of Joshua 2). They would soon be sent to conquer this territory, by a direct edict from God, and their interaction enlightens her spiritually, secures them physically, and guarantees the success of their eventual invasion. Her fledging steps of faith, not only assisted in their mission to tear down the walls of Jericho, but it began the process that tore down her defenses, and delivered her into a life as a child of God.
